The Reasons To Use A REALTOR In PEI

PEI Real Estate

It seems that real estate agents are shown less respect than they deserve, but like any professional, some are better than others. It might be slightly unfair to group them together with lawyers and used car salesmen, although some people insist on it. A ‘good’ real estate professional is a valuable ally in your search for a new home, business, or investment property. In fact, a dedicated agent will help take the stress out of a situation that can be hectic and exhausting. Whether you’re buying or selling a home, you can rely on your salesperson to be a strong support. It is important to find someone you feel very comfortable with and who meets your standards for respect and work ethic.

A good agent will know the community well and be able to answer your questions about the neighbourhood. Their job is not simply to find you a home, but to handle the large amounts of paperwork, explain the legalities of the business, and deal with the various personalities, allowing the situation to remain smooth, which should lead to a successful outcome. A good agent understands the marketplace and is dedicated to helping you find your dream property for the best possible price. An objective outlook is essential for an optimum result and that is the most important reason to use a real estate professional.

There have been some changes to the Industry in the last few years, as discount companies have entered the marketplace. There is even a company that allows you to pay a one time fee to put their sign on your lawn, so you can sell it yourself and deal with the clients. You have a simple ad on their website and the rest is up to you. It is your responsibility to market your house and decide on a price. Some of these lower rate companies have been somewhat successful marketing this alternative method, but the reality is that most people pay the upfront price and later choose to go back to the services of a traditional real estate agent when their house remains unsold. Only traditional real estate agents have access to the MLS system that lists all houses for sale in PEI by all real estate professionals. The majority of people shopping for houses use the MLS system,so that is a key to buying or selling any real estate in all of Canada. The services of a ‘good’ real estate professional  can achieve positive results due to proper certification and broader marketing programs. Just make sure you find an agent with a strong work ethic and an agreeable personality. There are a few out there, as with any profession, that may not meet your expectations.

Charlottetown immigrant opens Chinese ‘Starbucks’

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

pe-teahouse-cardsA new immigrant from China has opened a teahouse in Charlottetown, a type of social gathering place he says is as popular as Starbucks in his home country.

Bai Yunpeng told CBC News Tuesday he opened Bai Lei China Town on Grafton Street to give Chinese immigrants a reason to stay on the Island.

"They came come here because the PNP program the government have, but after one year they left because they have no fun here. There’s no place for them to have fun," said Bai.

P.E.I. has seen a huge increase in immigration following a huge push on the immigrant investor section of the Provincial Nominee Program in 2007-08. Thousands of immigrants will come to the Island under the program, many of them from China, but keeping them from moving to other parts of the country will be a big challenge.

Bai hopes his teahouse will help Chinese immigrants feel more at home.

"It’s kind of like Starbucks. It’s that popular. Every corner of a street you could find one," he said.

The main feature of Bai Lei China Town is a big, bright room is filled with long tables and chairs. Every table has a deck of cards and a bowl of snacks on it. There’s no charge to sit, but you do pay for the tea and snacks.

There’s also a room to play mahjong — a Chinese game played with tiles — and Bai hopes to have Asian groceries for sale soon.

The place has only been open for a few days, but already Bai said some students and new immigrants have dropped in. Word is slowly getting out and a card competition is planned for this Saturday.

Everyone, he said — Chinese or not — is welcome at the teahouse.

PEI Invites BC Families

Monday, October 18th, 2010

(I-Newswire) Prince Edward Island, October 18, 2010 – British Columbia has been Canada’s ‘Promised Land’ for generations of people seeking a new start in life, wide open spaces, affordable opportunity, and a healthy active lifestyle. That was then. The old adage, ‘Go west young man’, is giving way to ‘Next Stop- Canada’s Island Paradise’, also known as Prince Edward Island.

B.C. residents who fall into the non-millionaire category are in no position to acquire real estate in this ‘land of the lost’. British Columbia was once a Shangri-La offering hopes and dreams and opportunity, but Vancouver now boasts the greatest per-capita housing cost in the country. Sea view or water front property is only the bastion of the super elite.

B.C. has lost its lustre and, Hamish Redpath, founder of www.LivethePEIdream.com, and former Vancouverite, is encouraging the steady trickle of B.C. residents who recognize the opportunity for home ownership in Prince Edward Island. “A gorgeous ocean front B&B on PEI is selling for just 410,000, but in B.C. it would cost 4 or 5 million and small hobby farms under 200 thousand are still available”, says Redpath. “The opportunities are so amazing and it really is a paradise.”

Regis and Kelly Visit PEI

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

regis-111

The New York City based daytime talk show, ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’, arrived on PEI a few days ago to set up production and all of PEI is taking notice. The crowds are huge, as are the expectations for what this visit will do to increase PEI tourism and recognition for Canada’s smallest province in the U.S. "Many people simply do not know that PEI exists", said Robert Ghiz (PEI’s top politician) in a recent interview. The PEI government has been strongly critisized in recent weeks for shelling out about one million in tax payer’s funds to lure the highly rated U.S. morning program to do four shows on Canada’s Island Paradise, but PEI tourism officials stand by their decision to bring Regis Philbin and Kelly Rippa to the Birthplace of Confederation and hope the move will be a panacea for the Island’s sluggish performance as a tourist mecca in recent years.

Others question the wisdom and performance of PEI Tourism officials for maintaining ‘The Gentle Island’ advertising campaign that has been widely critisized as unimaginative and ineffective in recent years. There is little doubt that the ‘Regis and Kelly’ show will have a positive impact  to some degree. Future statistics will show if the effects will be long lasting or simply ‘fly by night’, but thousands of people are embracing the excitement. Some may  argue that it’s simply a ‘Hail Mary Pass’ late in the fourth quarter and not a more elaborate initiative designed to provide a well defined marketing strategy- time will tell.
